Support your global learning and development needs through a personalized, contextual platform
As the world of work has shifted during the pandemic, learning and development has taken a center stage. All workers nowadays need access to content and training anytime, anywhere, from any device. In this blog Rachel Todd, AMS Lead and Senior Consultant at SuccessDay, explains how the Learning module of Workday can offer employees a simple and engaging learning experience. Furthermore, learning administrators can support and optimize the learning and development goals and get insights and reports through the platform.
Rachel is an experienced HRIT-specialist who operates from her home south of London. She started her career running her parents restaurant, managing customers, whilst running payrolls, accounts etc. When her parents decided to retire, Rachel decided to become more IT focused within the HR and Payroll spectrum. She has held multiple HRIT-roles for companies such as Sodexo, Defence Estates, Early Learning Centre, NERC, Christie’s and Cobham Aerospace Communications.
She joined SuccessDay in August 2021 as an AMS Lead and Senior Consultant. “I’m probably the oldest of the bunch”, she laughs. Soon she travels to London once a week. “Otherwise, I miss the buzz of the city too much.” Rachel says SuccessDay is a fun, dynamic organization, where she can fully develop herself. “Everyone gets a lot of responsibility and freedom to do the work as they like, as long as the customer is satisfied. That’s what suits me best.”
From an Oracle-girl to a Workday-girl
Rachel used to be an Oracle-girl, but during her job at Christie’s as a Senior Test Analyst and later on a Test Lead and Defects Manager, she came across Workday. “At Christie’s I supported a team of 12 through the Testing of Workday and its integration with Cornerstone, AD and Lumesse. Since then, I have been mostly a Workday-girl. I am working comprehensively with Workday for over 10 years, with over 30 years of subject matter knowledge covering HR and payroll. I am experienced in Workday Core HCM, Learning, Compensation and Recruitment modules and I am highly experienced in Workday Learning and HCM”, Rachel says.
Before she joined SuccessDay she was a Workday Functional Consultant at Cobham Ltd, where she originally started as Test Manager throughout the deployment, and then supported tickets and projects following this. Furthermore, she was a Learning Consultant for Workday Learning deployment. “I worked as Test Manager throughout multiple releases and on all other HR, Workday and Cornerstone related projects. Secondly, I was the Business Analyst who provided troubleshooting of any business processes/integrations and assisted with building some integrations and some configurations in Workday and Cornerstone supporting HRIS.” Rachel has stated that one of the critical roles she played was as a ‘Communication Bridge’ between the needs of the business and the specialized nature of IT, to ensure all parties understood what each were trying to communicate and what could be delivered.
Workday Learning
Rachel is seen as the Workday Learning specialist at SuccessDay. The Learning module of Workday empowers organizations to deliver an employee-centric experience that transforms business outcomes by delivering learning in a consumer-like, social environment. The personalized, contextual learning platform enables businesses to keep employees engaged and adapt to change quickly with personalized content.
Since the pandemic, learning became a ‘need to have’. Entire workforces have gone remote very abruptly. Many organizations had in person training and onboarding. All over night they had to do this virtually. Rachel: “It’s now more than ever crucial to deliver content thoughtfully and continuously to meet the needs of the ever changing world of work. Learning is a key driver of business performance.”
These are the main benefits of Workday Learning for employees:
- As soon as an employee logs in to Workday they get a personalized homepage with a quick and easy access to Workday Learning, this includes an overview of new, most popular and recommended content and trainings (powered by Machine Leaning) as well as courses that they have been assigned, this platform is powerful for ensuring compliance via training.
- Ability to create multiple campaigns targeting specific learning courses/lessons targeted towards specific roles or people. Users can see a quick preview on the training and they have the ability to drill in and take action. They can also browse other content and filter by specific keywords, for instance ‘leadership’.
- Users can add a course to their learning path, or save it for later in their personalized playlist.
- Through the platform users have access to content of external learning providers (if integrated) as well.
- Last but not least, users can create and submit their own content and courses facilitating peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing.
These are the main benefits of Workday Learning for learning administrators:
- It enables administrators to deliver content and training to support their global organizations learning and development needs.
- Actionable insights and reports provide visibility into training completion and campaign effectiveness enabling administrators to optimize training.
- Administrators can update and optimize learning content to support the organizations training and compliance programs today and in the future.
Complex tickets
Rachel is struck by how mature the organizations she assists on behalf of SuccessDay are as it comes to Learning and Development. “The tickets I get are often complex, mainly level 3. So I can really add value here.” She worked on Workday Learning for BasicFit and Cobham recently.
“The Learning module is often pushed to the second phase since it is not critical. And there is always a tight timetable. Often, organizations start thinking too late about the prerequisites of rolling out this module and as a result a redesign is necessary.” Her advice to customers is to realise that Workday Learning, campaigns in particular, run like integrations. “So it takes a large leap of understanding initially for Workday Learning to make sense. Training your Learning Administrators/Partners as early as possible and enabling that leap sooner are essential to fully maximizing the functionality that this module can provide. Of course, SuccessDay can support you in this or train the people that are responsible for this within your organization.”
