Workday Release 2026R1 introduces several changes within HCM Core that directly affect how organisations use Workday on a daily basis. Rather than publishing a full release overview, this blog highlights a selection of HCM Core updates reviewed and shared by Brian Thangathurai, Senior Business Consultant Workday at SuccessDay.
Brian supports organisations across HCM design, configuration and optimisation. The updates below reflect the areas he reviewed as part of the 2026R1 release, with a focus on user experience, localisation and job profile governance.
A New Workday Experience in 2026R1
One of the most visible changes in 2026R1 is the introduction of a modernised user interface. Workday refreshes the Home page, repositions the search bar as the primary entry point and introduces a global navigation sidebar for quicker access to key applications.
While this update does not impact existing business logic, it does change the overall navigation experience for all users. Tenant branding and search behaviour may need to be reviewed, and because this feature is automatically enabled, organisations should evaluate the new experience in their Preview tenant before deciding whether to adopt it immediately or opt out via the Maintain Feature Opt-Ins task.

Machine Translation for Business Objects and Notifications
Workday 2026R1 introduces enhanced translation capabilities aimed at reducing manual localisation effort. The Translate Business Object task now allows organisations to generate translation drafts automatically using Google Translate. A new Generate Translation button has been added, together with a “Done – Machine Translated” status to improve tracking across multilingual deployments.
In addition, Workday introduces AI-generated translation functionality within the Notification Designer, enabling faster updates to global communications. These features must be explicitly enabled in the tenant setup before use.
For organisations operating across multiple countries and languages, this update can significantly streamline translation processes and reduce lead time for updates.

Control Job Profile Visibility by Country and Organisation
Another relevant enhancement in 2026R1 is the ability to control job profile visibility more precisely during staffing transactions. Workday now allows organisations to restrict job profiles based on supervisory organisations, companies, countries or a combination of these.
Although restrictions by country were previously possible, end users were not always required to adhere to them. With this update, invalid job profiles are automatically hidden based on the event’s location or organisation. This creates a more controlled environment and reduces data inconsistencies during staffing processes.
For organisations working with local job profiles or region-specific setups, this improvement strengthens governance and improves data quality.

The Workday 2026R1 updates reviewed in this blog focus on improving usability, localisation efficiency and configuration control within HCM Core. While some changes are highly visible, others require deliberate activation and evaluation in the Preview tenant.
