WD2022R2 What’s new?

The second release for Workday 2022 is coming up.
For this blog I was not sure where to go. Should I write about the process of the releases? The Brainstorms? Or how to prepare? (Make sure you test guys!)
Nope, I want to give you an short overview of some features that I like in this release.

230 new features

I first looked into the numbers. With this release Workday delivers a total of 230 new or enhanced features in the Preview tenants as of August 6th. That’s 20 items less than theWD2022R1 release. But it’s not about the numbers, it’s about the features and how they improve the functionalities or User Experience. So, here we go.

I did my best to find some cool new or improved features that will be relevant for not only Admin’s or implementers but for employees too. Reading trough the list of 230 items, I noticed some features are very cool but employees won’t notice any difference. So before we have a look into some of the really nice ones, I will first point out 2 features that significantly make the life of admin’s easier.

Let’s start with the Workday Docs, this is now available for 32 additional HCM business processes. I definitely see the added value of this one. When talking about making life easier, you can also now enter scheduled weekly hours on a Job Requisition as defined by a position restriction. This is not automatically available; you have to go into ‘edit tenant setup’to make this available. But once you’ve done this, you are good to go and manual effort is reduced.

So, now let’s dive into some features that will not only make the admin’s life easier but also make employees happy or add to the User Experience.

Workday Today

Remember Workday Today? Until WD2022R2 you could still opt out. But when WD2022R2 is released, Workday Today will become default for everyone. Workday Today is driven by machine learning and should make your life easier so you can be more productive. To be honest, it took some time for me to adjust fully to Workday Today but now I really like the way it looks and how easy it is to use. It shows the tasks I’m using the most and I think this actually does increase my productivity.

Skills import

Another nice improvement to the overall employee Experience is the import of skills from third party systems. This is now enabled as of WD2022R2. If you use other systems as well, employees will see the same skills across all of them. Off course the overall functionality improves with this feature, but keeping the employee in mind, this is a realcool one right?

Default amount per Time Entry code

The last new feature I am going to discuss is one that is exciting to me. (A little background story, I used to implement the Absence & Time Tracking modules). Are you ready? From now on you can set a default amount per Time Entry code! It doesn’t sound that exciting to you maybe, but when you use the Time Tracking module you probably recognize the struggle that employees always have to adjust the amount of time entered. This is no longer needed, if you always enter the same units per day, workday automatically populates this based on the Time Entry code.

Well that’s it on the features. What I like about the releases in Workday; some of the features are much needed for all clients, some of them are just for a handful of customers or countries relevant. There is always a feature in the release that fits your needs.

Well that was my point of view on the WD2022R2 release. I’m curious what new feature excites you the most. Feel free to comment!
