Jan Pieter van Laar

Why are the HR Technology Awards personally relevant to you and why did you choose to be part of the jury?

Personally, I believe it’s about time that an award is established in the field of HR Tech to draw attention to the close relationship and integration between HR and Technology. I enthusiastically and eagerly participate as a jury member, driven by excitement and curiosity.

Through various organizations, I have practically experienced that investing in HR Tech leads to increased efficiency and optimization of HR processes and practices. In essence, it accelerates processes and enhances user and customer satisfaction for HR services.

With these HR Technology Awards, we give the attention this subject deserves!

What do you expect these awards to contribute to innovation within HRM and better collaboration between HR teams and tech companies?

Through these awards, I hope to contribute to further collaboration and integration between HR, IT, and/or tech companies. Collaboration between HR and Tech should be inherent, where organizations jointly set business objectives for the short and long term based on an underlying roadmap, planning, resourcing, and budget. Only through this approach can innovation and improvement become structural and successful within organizations.

Furthermore, the HR Tech Awards provide an excellent platform to share best practices, trends, and the latest innovations, contributing to the formation of vision and perspective for participants and participating organizations.

As a jury member, what specific aspects will you focus on when evaluating the nominated projects or products?

As a jury member, I consider the outcomes to be crucial. On one hand, financially – to what extent does a business case lead to the intended efficiency or optimization of processes such as recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and development. On the other hand, the enhancement or innovation should also result in higher employee, candidate, or customer satisfaction to determine the success of the transformation.

What personally do you find the most inspiring example of innovation within HRM and tech companies, and why?

I don’t have a specific example in mind, as there are various types and sizes of innovations, but I find technology that enables direct communication and feedback between organizations and employees to be extremely inspiring.

Especially in larger companies and organizations, it can be challenging to effectively communicate due to multiple layers. A communication platform can help in this regard, facilitating two-way communication and enabling rapid, efficient sharing of relevant information.

Moreover, the ease with which pulse surveys can now be deployed, not only to measure engagement but also on specific topics like exit and onboarding, swiftly provides a wealth of valuable information and data that can be meaningfully utilized for further enhancement, optimization, and innovation within organizations.
