In the run-up to the HR Technology Awards 2025, we spoke with one of this year’s jury members: Olga Martens-Stuurman. With an impressive international career at HP – where she worked for 28 years in various leadership roles, she knows better than anyone how technology, leadership, and innovation can reinforce one another. As former leader of HP’s “Future of Work” team, she brings a fresh perspective on the future of work. And that’s exactly the perspective she brings to this year’s HR Tech Awards 2025 jury.
AI is Everywhere – But Do You Dare to Look Beyond It?
According to Olga, many entries will focus on AI. Understandably, developments are moving at lightning speed, and AI now touches every domain of work. But that’s precisely why her message is clear: look beyond just efficiency and productivity. “AI offers so much more potential than we’re currently using. Think about improving quality, reducing errors, or even inventing completely new ways of working.” She also hopes to see solutions around skills marketplaces, virtual reality, blockchain, cybersecurity, and, of course, people analytics. Innovation is broad, and the HRTA is the place to showcase it.
“I get excited when people truly dare to innovate. Not just using AI to speed something up, but to rethink the way we work radically.”
What Makes an Entry Truly Stand Out?
What does Olga hope to see in the submissions? Genuine innovation. Not necessarily something that fits only within HR, but solutions that cut across sectors, connect multiple functions, and make a lasting impact. “What moves me are ideas that are out-of-the-box, but also honest, human-centered, and sustainable. The future of work demands the right combination of human and machine.” She emphasizes that it’s not just about big companies – startups have a strong position too. “Startups can move faster and test new things. Large companies, in turn, can scale. But the real power lies in the combination. That’s where innovation lives.”
A Tip from the Jury: Keep It Simple and Show Your Passion
Olga ends with a golden tip for everyone looking to participate in the HRTA: “It’s easy to fall in love with your own idea. But have your neighbor or your grandma read it. Does it still make sense? Keep it clear, but most of all, show your passion. That’s where the difference lies.”
