Imagine this: you have a solution that streamlines HR processes, truly reaches employees, or makes technological innovation tangible within organizations. But how do you know if it really qualifies as impactful HR technology? For Erwin Hoogeveen, Chief HR Officer at Fugro and new jury member of the HR Technology Awards 2025, it’s about more than just smart tools. “Technology should make people’s work easier. If it does that, you’re on the right track, that’s when it becomes impactful HR technology.”
With over 30 years of experience in the HR field and a strong focus on digitalization, Erwin knows exactly what to look for. This year, he and the jury will evaluate entries in three categories: Best HR Transformation, Best HR Innovation, and Best Next Generation HR Technology.
From Foundations to Future Vision
Fugro, the company where Erwin works, conducts geodata research. Whether you’re placing an offshore wind turbine or constructing a building on land, Fugro first investigates the subsurface. Every foundation is custom work. And Erwin brings that same precision and care into his role as an HR leader.
“I’ve been working at Fugro for 9 years now, but I’ve been in the field since 1995,” he says. “Always in HR, with the occasional step into the business side. It’s that intersection of people, strategy, and technology where the real magic happens for me.”
Why Join the Jury?
For Erwin, technology is never a goal in itself. “Anything you can automate or robotize without human interaction, just do it. Not because it’s trendy, but because it adds value.” That mindset led him to the jury of the HR Technology Awards. “I enjoy it, and I think it’s important to see what new solutions are emerging. Whether you’re a start-up or an established organization, if you’re truly making HR smarter, more human, or more effective, I want to see it.”
His Advice to Participants
What, according to Erwin, distinguishes a strong submission from a decent attempt?
- Get your basics right.
“With AI and data, the immediate question is: how secure is it? Within companies, you must know exactly where your data goes and who has access. That’s often underestimated.” - Know what you’re adding.
“Why are you doing this? What are you solving for employees, managers, or the organization as a whole? The best innovations are not just smart, they’re practical.” - Think with your client.
“How will you support implementation? Do you understand the reality of HR teams? Cost, adoption, security, it all matters.”
What Erwin Hopes to See
“I’m looking forward to seeing solutions that really make a difference. Whether it’s a major digital transformation, an innovative AI solution, or a fresh take on the employee journey, if it works and helps people move forward, I’m excited.”
